Walter opened its new PCD Reconditioning Service Center in Columbia City, Indiana, marking a significant strategic expansion of its North American operations. This new facility strengthens the company’s ability to deliver fast, efficient, and locally manufactured PCD solutions to customers across the region.
The 5,000ft2 center is equipped with six state-of-the-art machines and is ready to begin operations immediately. The facility was built to meet the growing demand from customers for reliable, cost-effective reconditioning of PCD tooling – supporting reduced tooling costs, lower inventory requirements, and providing faster turnaround times to keep their machines up and running.
“This new facility allows us to respond to customer needs faster than ever,” says Aaron Eltzroth, Business Development. “By localizing our PCD reconditioning capabilities, we’re helping customers maximize tool life, reduce waste, and manage their production costs more effectively.”
The launch of the Columbia City service center follows the company’s expansion into PCD cutting tools with the launch of Walter FMT in 2024. The engineering solutions provider can now offer expertise across the entire lightweight machining process, especially in aluminum components. Colleagues from the Walter FMT production unit in Trofa, Portugal played a critical role in supporting this startup with hands-on training and expertise to ensure a smooth transition and upskill Walter’s U.S.-based team.
Also, the service center is located within the existing PDQ Workholding facility after the company was acquired by Walter more than a year ago. PDQ is one of the leading custom workholding players in the United States, focusing on advanced clamping fixtures for various industries, including automotive, aerospace, and general engineering.
The new service center will support both Walter and PDQ customers, furthering both companies’ missions to provide comprehensive, cost-effective, and sustainable engineering solutions.
With this additional investment, Walter is reinforcing its competitive edge while staying focused on what matters most - the customer. From improving tool longevity to increasing uptime and sustainability, the PCD Service Center is a key step in the way Walter delivers engineering solutions into the North American market.
