U.S.-based Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Diversified Machine Systems (DMS), implements a programming development for 5-axis CNC machining. A common oversight in high production manufacturing environments occurs when machinery operators overlook a critical step and forget to check for present tools in tool changers, damaging the machine.
As part of their commitment for CNC service, DMS has installed a 2014 Tool Changer Sensor feature on most DMS 5 Axis CNC Routers. The program will now automatically check to see whether a tool is already in the tool changer carousel before continuing its program. If the pocket contains an existing tool, it’ll warn the operator.
“This protective mechanism will continue to offer manufacturing locations and improved run time by preventing user error,” explains DMS Executive Vice President & CSO, Ed Hilligrass. “About a third of our machine crashes can be attributed to this basic step, and its prevention avoids costly repairs. These savings are part of our continued innovation plan for our customers.”
This common issue was identified and solved by Pete Vassar, a DMS Installation & Service Technician.
Diversified Machine Systems (DMS) was recently named a 2014 Colorado Companies to Watch Winner in July. Learn more at DMSCNCRouters.com.
