5th Axis Inc. (http://www.fifth-axis.com) co-owner Steve Grangetto announced today that the firm will manufacture and sell dovetail fixtures for 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machines. In a related announcement, 5th Axis Fixtures (http://www.5axisfixtures.com) was launched to provide a line of simple and robust dovetail 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining fixtures that locate stock material over the center of rotation. The dovetail clamps wedge the stock down ensuring a positive secure hold on much less stock compared to vise-mounted parts. Use of dovetail work holding fixtures for 5 axis CNC machining allows for smoother running and more reliable jobs.
“When we developed our own custom work holding fixtures, we decided to make them available to the public,” said Grangetto. Designed by machinists for machinists, 5th Axis Fixtures manufactures a high-quality and affordable line of work holding fixtures that out perform traditional CNC work holding vises. These fixtures allow machine shops to become more efficient and effective.
“5th Axis Fixtures allow the cutter to easily reach all five faces of the work piece. This speeds up production and allows the machine to run with little to no stoppage time. By employing these dovetail fixtures, you can get the most out of your CNC machines,” said co-owner Chris Taylor. “A 5 Axis dovetail fixture offers a machined part in one single operation with minimal second operation cleanup.” The dental industry is especially responsive to these fixtures as several companies noted they are the most rigid work holding devices available. 5th Axis provides pallets with fixtures directly integrated for standard dental materials in puck, bar and block forms.
Grangetto explained that the fixtures save on labor and energy costs. “Less stoppage time means that parts can run faster with less interference. This allows our machines and machinists to be as efficient as possible.” He added that the fixtures hold on to as little as .05 inch stock which makes them extremely efficient by using far less material than a traditional vise system. 5th Axis Fixtures offers machine and pallet-specific bolt patterns to fit any 3, 4, or 5 axis machine. Custom design, engineering and manufacturing is available for custom fixtures tailored to specific needs.
